Kate's Alaskan Adventure -- August-September, 2004
I'm sorry about the squashed nature of the images -- I'm hacking away here without secureCRT. Bottomline, if you like an image you should be able to save it to your desktop and see the whole thing, with the original dimensions. Just right click on the image, select copy, and then get to your normal computer screen, right click on it and select paste. Or you can wait until I fix it in a few months. Complaints can got to webmaster@thebrandonfamily.org!

I promise they'll get better. I was excited! These are caribou feet.

Moose relaxing 5 yards from our campsite at Muncho Lake, BC

I made it to the yukon 4 days into the drive

After 4 days on the road it was time for the black sheep of canadian liquors.

Time for a Yukon Initiation.

Cops in the Yukon are tough -- and rather comical.

One of the perks of camping -- beautiful sunrises.

First Lesson learned in AK: Don't do something when you're drunk that you can't do when you're sober.

That's right, turn your head. This is Marketa and Zach. We backpacked in Denali for 5 days off trail, and quite simply, I don't think I'll ever be the same again. It was amazing.

My favorite meal in Denali, Blueberries with a splash of pancake.

When they say you'll do a little bushwhacking in Denali, they mean it.

The red salmon running in AK. It's pretty wild.

The sunsets in AK are one of the reasons why you should all come up here in your lifetime.

This is my friend Chad teaching me the ways of the salmon, and yes, that's a fly rod!

If you're going to learn how to catch silver salmon, Chad's a good friend to have.

I still need a few more lessons with the net. It's odd I know, but the salmon don't really like to back into it on their own.

Right about now I'm thinking, "yup, it was definitely worth the 8 day drive."

Kate and Chad. 2 incredibly fun, generous friends in Alaska.

Moose, helping me try to legally hook a silver salmon. He's holding the net and I'm currently wrestling a red salmon, which I don't even want, for 30 minutes. I swear, the fish was as long as my leg.

Success! My 27" silver. Very tasty stuff that salmon.

It really, REALLY doesn't get much better than this.
